Activity 2 - Toxicity of Nanoparticles on Zebrafish
Purpose of Activity
This activity allows students to develop an awareness of nanoparticles, how nanoparticles can may come into contact with the environment and the possible effects they could have on the environment. Students are given a number of scenarios where particular nanoparticles are exposed to zebrafish embryos. Students then interpret the effects of the nanoparticles leading to a consideration of the process of determining which nanoparticles should be used in manufacturing items and what restrictions may apply.

Activity Notes
This activity allows students to work on a number of science inquiry skills such as identifying controlled, dependent and independent variables as well as using diagrams to represent scientific findings and drawing conclusions from these findings. Students also consider how humans impact our surrounding environment and why toxicity testing processes are deemed necessary when the commercialisation of nanoparticles and products containing nanoparticles is increasing.
